After Doug’s funeral, Joey Armstrong proves he’s more ruthless than ever. While Vanessa mourns, he quietly edits the truth — and Marcel’s fate may depend on how far Joey’s willing to go.
The Tuesday, October 7, episode of Beyond the Gates featured Fairmont Crest/DMV residents playing games that dealt with love, life, and death. But nobody played the game better than Joey freaking Armstrong.
Key Takeaways:
Vanessa struggles with her grief as Doug’s loved ones gather to say goodbye.
Joey manipulates the aftermath with a shady plan to rewrite the truth.
Marcel’s role in Doug’s final night may be erased—digitally and otherwise.
Doug’s Goodbye
Image Credit: CBS/ParamountOn Tuesday, BTG checked in with Doug’s (Jason Graham) mourners after the funeral. So we didn’t get to see Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) give her eulogy. And we didn’t get to see everybody who showed up for him. Where were Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) and Jan (Jerri Tubbs)? The characters that were there reflected on what happened, but we still felt a little bit of that emotion because Vanessa was so distraught, and Nicole (who BTG fans want to see Greg Vaughan’s upcoming character mix it up with) and Dani got to be there for her.
What Game is Joey Playing?
But who had the gall to show up after the funeral was over? Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom). He walked right up to Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) after Nicole and Dani (Karla Mosley) had left and said that he wanted to check up on her. He has some serious nerve showing up there after what he did.
And then later, he watched footage of the night of Doug’s death. And Marcel (Darryl W. Handy) sat right next to Doug as the man spiraled from depression, drink, and high-stakes poker. Joey sounded menacing when he said it looked like he would have to make Marcel disappear.

What he really meant (we think) is that he had the shady detective digitally disappeared from the footage. That way, he could act transparent and helpful when he brought the footage to the police station. What the footage on the flash drive showed was Doug looking like a lonely guy on a bender, which resulted in him leaving the casino, driving drunk, and dying.
