NEW UPDATE! Emmerdale favourite ‘confirms’ return and fans are delighted
Has an Emmerdale comeback just been quietly confirmed on Instagram?
Fans certainly think so.
Georgia Jay, who plays Steph Miligan in Emmerdale, has sent viewers into meltdown after sharing a seemingly innocent snap from the hairdressers. At first glance, it’s just a glam moment in the chair. But eagle-eyed followers quickly spotted something very interesting in the background.
A script.
Not just any script, a blurred-out one. And naturally, we soap fans have gone into full detective mode.
Georgia hasn’t officially announced a return date yet, but the strategically obscured pages have sparked speculation that she’s back filming, and that Steph could be heading home to the Dales sooner than expected.
It wouldn’t be a huge surprise. Georgia only stepped away from the ITV soap for maternity leave, with her exit storyline deliberately left open-ended. And co-star Beth Cordingly, who plays Steph’s mum Ruby Fox-Miligan, previously reassured fans that she would be back.
Georgia joined the show in November 2024 as Steph, the daughter of Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and Ruby. From the start, Steph was thrown into some of the show’s darkest material.
Her character was rocked by the devastating discovery that she was the product of incest, following Ruby’s historical abuse at the hands of her own father. That storyline alone cemented Steph as a huge new presence in the village, layered, damaged and emotionally complex.

Steph’s eventual exit in 2025 came after a brutal run of revelations. She discovered that her mum, Ruby, had killed her grandfather, who was also Steph’s biological father, leaving her completely shaken. Struggling to process the truth, and with her relationship with Ross Barton in tatters after learning he’d slept with Manpreet Sharma months earlier, Steph made the decision to walk away.
She announced she was off travelling, specifically heading to a yoga retreat in Rome, giving the character a clean but very open door exit.
Behind the scenes, Georgia’s departure was down to a real-life situation. In January 2026, she revealed she had secretly given birth to her first child, a daughter called Nora, back in June 2025. The news came as a genuine shock to fans, as she had only shared her pregnancy publicly in the same month she gave birth.
It was a beautifully kept secret, and meant her maternity leave had already been quietly factored into Steph’s storyline.
Now though, with the Anthony body storyline still bubbling away in the village and plenty of unresolved tension within the Miligan family, there’s more than enough material waiting for Steph when she returns.
Which is why that blurred script has sent fans into overdrive.
Soap viewers are used to reading between the lines when it comes to social media clues. A ‘casual’ post from a dressing room. A familiar studio backdrop. A glimpse of a call sheet. And now, a blurred script while getting her hair done.
Coincidence? Possibly. But fans aren’t convinced.
Fans shared their hopeful excitement in the comments, writing, ‘Is that an Emmerdale script?!!!’ And ‘I hope you’re reading an Emmerdale script and coming back’
The timing certainly makes sense. Georgia has had time away with baby Nora, and with her character’s exit never billed as permanent, a return was always on the cards. The show left huge emotional threads dangling, particularly Steph’s fractured relationship with Ruby and the fallout from everything she learned before fleeing the village.
There’s also the small matter of unfinished business with Ross.
If Georgia is back filming, viewers could soon see Steph re-enter the chaos she left behind and given how explosive her storylines have been so far, it’s unlikely she’ll be slipping quietly back into village life.
For now, there’s been no formal confirmation from ITV or Georgia herself. But in the world of soaps, a blurred script speaks volumes.
And if this really is a soft launch of her comeback, fans are more than ready.
