Coronation Street’s new feud unleashed as Tim confronts surprise new rival

Coronation Street is set to air a surprise rivalry for Tim Metcalfe as he grows jealous of the fast friendship between his pal Steve McDonald and newcomer Ben Driscoll. In upcoming scenes, Tim is set to grow annoyed when he sees Steve and Ben enjoying some banter at the Rovers.

When Steve heads to the bathroom, Tim takes advantage of his absence to mark the territory with Ben. Tim spells out to the publican that Steve is his best friend.

Later in the week, Tim feels left out again when he spots Steve and Ben playing a game of darts at the pub. Will he open up about his feelings to Steve? And could the bestie duo become a trio?

Corrie producer Kate Brooks previously touched upon the male friendships on the show, explaining that Tim feels like the “third wheel” in this new bond between Steve and Ben.

“Tim is feeling quite aggrieved that he’s suddenly become the third wheel in this friendship group. Ben’s all shiny and new, and Tim’s feeling a bit old and rusty, so he’s trying to keep one step ahead and make sure that Steve’s his best friend and not Ben’s best mate!” Brooks said.

“So throughout it all, obviously the subject matter is incredibly serious, but there’s lightness to be had with that little group.

“Female friendships are so important for our show – strong women are so important. But fellas being quite daft and talking nonsense around a dartboard is also equally as important. There’s lots more of that to come.”

Tim will also be at the centre of a more dramatic storyline connected to Megan Walsh’s grooming of Ben’s teenage son, Will. Seeing Will’s ordeal, Tim will reassess what happened to him at 14, when he lost his virginity to Trisha Pinkerton, who was nearly 20 at the time.
