Monday, December 29 – Episode # 198
Anita (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon (Clifton Davis) struggled to accept their new normal. At the hospital, they learned about the next steps. And this included quickly setting up a date for a surgery where they will insert a port in Anita’s chest. This will be needed for the chemotherapy phase of her treatment. Elsewhere, Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) courted Joey (Jon Lindstrom) with a scandalous offer. She wanted to collaborate on this free clinic she wanted to name after herself. She knew he had deep pockets and that they could make this project beneficial for both of them. Dani (Karla Mosley) and Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) competed over the same man. This was merely about spotting one of the workers at Uptown. Dani thought he could be a model. Vanessa felt he was perfect for her escort app. He chose himself and his girlfriend, leaving both Dani and Vanessa out in the cold. Finally, Eva (Ambyr Michelle) pulled back regarding Izaiah (David Lami Friebe). The second he mentioned her and the word “girlfriend” in the same sentence, she started to freak out. They had to have a status talk.

Tuesday, December 30 – Episode #199
Fairmont Crest and the DMV celebrated New Year’s Eve, and Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) pulled out all the stops to give her girlfriend, Madison (Kenjah), the surprise of her life. She arranged for Special guest star Kenny Lattimore to sing one of his classic songs. Ashley (Jen Jacob) and Derek (Ben Gavin) had another awkward conversation. The Dupree sisters’ evening took a turn when they were both summoned home to see their parents. They received heart-wrenching news. Anita and Vernon told them about her triple-negative breast cancer diagnosis and that they would need to get tested for the BRCA gene. Elsewhere, Ted (Keith D. Robinson) and Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) ended up at Orphey Gene’s at midnight. That was when the doctor and the nurse kissed, potentially turning their friendship into something more.

BTG’s 200th episode was arguably one of the show’s best episodes as Anita and Vernon relied on Dani and Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) to spread the news of her breast cancer diagnosis. Nicole delivered the devastating news to Kat (Colby Muhammad) and Martin (Brandon Claybon). Afterwards, she called Ted and told him. She also asked him to talk to Kat, because Kat made an emphatic declaration that she wouldn’t get tested for the BRCA gene if Nicole’s test ended up positive. He told his ex-wife that he would try, but Kat was an adult and entitled to make her own decision. Meanwhile, Dani weathered Hayley’s (Marquita Goings) insults to discuss with Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) what she had just learned. Unfortunately, she took too much time, and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) and Chelsea walked into their grandparents’ house and learned the news that way.

Friday, January 2 – Episode #201
Dani and Bill showed up at her parents’ mansion with Bill in tow. He and Anita sat down, and Bill proceeded to share some words of wisdom with her. He told her he could somewhat relate to her and how he felt so helpless when he had his stroke. And that it was hard for him to accept help, and that she shouldn’t be like him. Because she will need everybody’s support and help to get through this. As for Dani and Vernon, they eventually had a one-on-one talk where Dani told her father that she would be there for him through this. And that he couldn’t keep things bottled up. He could stay strong in front of Anita, but he could let out his feelings with her, and he did. At Uptown, a reeling Kat downed tequila shots to deal with what she just learned. She also reached out to Tomas (Alex Alegria) so that he would join her at the bar. After a shaky start to their conversation, Tomas was able to comfort her. Ted also reached out to Kat and Martin, checking in with them, knowing they would be experiencing a range of emotions.
